A special eight-week class has been planned for you, beginning January 8. This class will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 each Sunday morning through February 26. During that period, Don Wallace will teach in the auditorium and Kristy Massey will teach a ladies class for ladies in Room 112. Christy Brown will teach a class for Middle & High School girls.

The class for the male members is titled: "Improving our Service to God While Serving and Leading the Church During Worship."

Would you not agree that if we are going to serve or lead in any capacity, we owe it to our Lord (and to his worshippers) to fill that role to the very best of our ability?

Therefore, we will study things that will help us do the very best that we can every time we stand before the church to read scriptures, lead a prayer, serve the Lord's Supper, lead a song, make announcements, or present a Bible message. We will emphasize the awesome responsibility and opportunity to be in the presence of God, to serve and lead his people in worship.

Now, it may be that you have never stood before the church during worship, and have no desire to do so. But, come to the class anyway. Or, it may be that you have many years of experience in leading during worship. But, come to the class anyway. Your presence will be a visible support of this effort and you will gain a fresh perspective of serving and leading in worship.

Here are four updates on the sick:

Kurt Massey had a scan done this morning, as a part of his check up, and he received a good report on the scan and the blood work. We praise our heavenly Father for answering our prayers, and we are happy for Kurt and his family!

Rowen Scott (daughter of Lindsey and Lee) had surgery earlier today to remove her adenoids and to put tubes in her ears. The surgery went well and we are happy for Rowen and her family about this. We thank God for answering our prayers in Rowen's behalf.

Christy Brown consulted with the doctors this afternoon. She will need to continue on the medication that she has been taking, and undergo further testing. Christy will also have a consultation with another doctor. Pray that all of this will bring good results.

Dan Stevenson, the step-son of Paul Williamson, remains in critical condition in the hospital in Columbus, OH, after a car accident. After five surgeries, his condition is stable but he will have to have more surgery. Remember him and his family as you pray.

SUNDAY UPDATE

I have just talked to Paul Williamson, and he has given me the following information about his step-son's condition:

Dan has undergone five surgeries, and will have to have more surgery after he gets a little stronger. Most of his injuries are internal, but he has some broken bones in his pelvis and arm that will require surgery.

Dan remains in ICU and his condition is listed as "stable" but still critical.

Paul and Phyllis plan to return home tomorrow, and Paul said they look forward to seeing everyone Wednesday night.

• We extend our sympathy to John Heffington and his family upon the recent death of his mother, Georgia Heffington. The memorial service was yesterday in Huntsville.

• Also, we extend sympathy to the family of Juanita Jones, a former, long-time member at West Fayetteville. She died yesterday. The funeral arrangements are pending.

Concerning the sick:

• Ray Collins has been awake and alert more in recent days. He remains under Hospice Care. He and Roberta both truly appreciate your concern for them, and they are especially grateful for those who have been able to come and sit with Ray for a few hours. If you are able and willing to help out in this way, contact Roberta (Phyllis Williamson has been coordinating this, but she is out of town for a few days -- see note below.)

• Paul and Phyllis Williamson left this morning after receiving a call about his step-son, Dan Stevenson. Dan was in a bad car wreck and he is in critical condition, in Columbus, Ohio. The prognosis is not good, and Paul and Phyllis left immediately to be with Dan.

• Christy Brown's biopsy revealed a bacterial infection in her stomach. She is consulting with doctors about which course of action to take in treating this. She appreciates your prayers in her behalf.

• Bill Norman continues to have back pain. He had an MRI done on Monday, and awaits the results from that test.

• Elizabeth Norman has been experiencing a severe attack of colitis in recent days. She was admitted to the hospital in Columbia earlier this week, but she is returning home this evening. After undergoing tests the results are that she will undergo treatments by medication (that involves receiving the medicine by IV, as an outpatient). She received the first treatment earlier today, and will receive the second one in two weeks. Pray that this medication will be effective so that she will not have to undergo surgery.

• Winford Claiborne remains weak. Brother Claiborne went to the doctor in Nashville today. I talked to his son, Doron, this afternoon and Doron said that the doctor confirmed that his dad is badly anemic. He also said that the results of the biopsy done recently confirmed a correlation between nerve conduction and muscle control. Brother Claiborne has an appointment at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on January 18.

• Dot Watkins' back problem is better, and she has been able to worship recently. However, she is still not well, and remains restricted in what she can do.

• Brant Helms has had the flu for the past week. I inquired about him this morning, and Kevin told me that he is finally better, and able to return to school today.

• Kurtis Massey has an appointment and scans scheduled for December 14.

• Also, remember Raymond and Dean Russell, John Heffington, Lynn Brown, Barbara Spencer, Bud Stevenson, Steve Poarch, Inez Lewter, Sandy Mullins, Gladys Wiser, and other West Fayetteville members who are dealing with various health problems.

• And, remember these who are relatives of West Fayetteville members, with health problems: > Wiley Bolander, husband of Norma; Cindy Eslick Ables, mother of Mack Eslick and Morgan Eslick; Robin Harned, daughter of Dauna Skipper; and Kenneth Yarbrough, brother-in-law of Marty Pepper.

God's Creation

I hope you were able to see the beautiful, huge snow flakes as they began falling late this morning. God's creation is amazing and aren't you thankful for the ability and opportunity to see it! Below is a picture of our backyard (last January) that displays a part of his creation.

ISLAM SEMINAR

Speaker: Dave Miller

Theme: The Quran and New Testament Christianity

Friday & Saturday, October 14 & 15 - 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, October 16

9:30 a.m. ~ 10:30 a.m. ~ 1:30 a.m.

==================================

HERE IS THE LATEST INFORMATION I HAVE ABOUT THE SICK:

Paige Bolander, 8-year old daughter of Andrew and Michelle Bolander is recovering nicely from the 2nd degree burns on her legs. It was nice to see her at church again on Sunday.

Ray Collins is in Huntsville Hospital, room 720. He underwent a heart catheterization earlier today, and the results were good. They are waiting for a consultation with the pulmonary doctor, to determine what to do next. Further tests are anticipated.

Lynn Brown has been having severe pain in a shoulder. He will have surgery tomorrow morning to repair a torn rotator cuff and remove bone spurs.

Lynn Wiser underwent cataract surgery on Monday. Lynn has sight in only one eye, and having surgery on the good eye was, understandably, of great concern. Thankfully, the surgery went well and her eye is, as she said it to me earlier today, "doing wonderfully."

Christy Brown is scheduled for another test on October 19.

Frances Bumgardner, daughter of Wayne and Kathy Hall, has been having kidney problems. Kathy told me that, thankfully, Frances does not have kidney stones. Instead, she has a urinary tract infection. She is at home and is improving.

Tippy Ingram underwent a heart test last week, and the result was good -- there is no hole in her heart. The doctor intends to continue to look for the cause of her migraine headaches.

James M. Rhodes and his wife are scheduled to have cataract surgery. Geneva was in St. Thomas last week, with what first appeared to be a heart attack. Thankfully, it was not. She is now at home, being treated for a kidney problem.

Steve Poarch remains "about the same." He is experiencing a lot of severe pain, and is scheduled to go to a pain-management clinic next week.

Raymond Russell continues his dialysis treatments three times each week.

Dean Russell has a "bulging disc" causing pain in her back and hip. She will undergo therapy for this.

Winford Claiborne continues to have extreme physical weakness. He hopes to have an appointment at Johns Hopkins soon.

Gladys Wiser has myeloma. Gladys would appreciate cards from her friends.

And, remember these who are members at West Fayetteville, with ongoing health problems:

Barbara Spencer, Bud Stevenson, Steve Poarch, Inez Lewter, Sandy Mullins, and others who are dealing with ongoing health problems.

Also, remember these who are relatives of West Fayetteville members, with health problems:

Wiley Bolander, husband of Norma; Cindy Eslick Ables, mother of Mack Eslick and Morgan Eslick; Robin Harned, daughter of Dauna Skipper; Kenneth Yarbrough, brother-in-law of Marty Pepper; Georgia Heffington (John's mother).

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.westfayetteville.net/local/2011/10/9/wfcc-bulletin-100911.html"><rss:title>WFCC bulletin - 10.09.11</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.westfayetteville.net/local/2011/10/9/wfcc-bulletin-100911.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Bulletin</dc:subject>

Dr. Dave Miller of Apologetics Press will present five sessions on The Quran & New Testament Christianity.

To better prepare ourselves we wanted to share a few resources that will hopefully drive home the critical nature of this issue. Please take some time and read the April 2011 issue of Focus Press think magazine dedicated to exposing Islam's threat to Christianity and the American way of life. Go to the Apologetics Press website for several articles that also detail the encrochment of this vile religion.

For those who take exception to the strong statements against Islam we are making or are offended by the very idea of this seminar, we especially encourage you to study these resources and make plans to come and hear Dr. Dave Miller next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

We promise that the truth will be presented in love, but make no mistake, the truth about Islam will be presented. Now is not the time to pacify, we must take our stand with God against all forces of evil, even when it isn't popular or "politically correct."

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.westfayetteville.net/local/2011/10/5/wednesday-update-100511.html"><rss:title>Wednesday Update - 10.05.11</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.westfayetteville.net/local/2011/10/5/wednesday-update-100511.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Wednesday Update</dc:subject>

SYMPATHY

HERE IS THE LATEST INFORMATION I HAVE ABOUT THE SICK:

Paige Bolander, 8-year old daughter of Andrew and Michelle Bolander, is receiving treatment for 2nd degree burns on her legs. These treatments are very painful and your prayers for Paige are requested.

Ray Collin's cataract surgery was supposed to be today, but was postponed because the anesthesiologist wanted a letter from Ray's heart doctor saying it would be all right to partially sedate him for the surgery. Ray is still awaiting results of tests done last week by a neurologist, and he is scheduled to see a cardiologist this Friday. Ray has been falling a lot, so, also on Friday, he will have an MRI done to see to determine if radiation caused nerve damage. Please keep Ray in your prayers.

Christy Brown has been undergoing various tests. She is having problems in multiple joints and the doctors think she may have Rheumatoid Arthritis. She underwent other tests last week relative to other health problems. She is scheduled to go back to the doctor in the morning for results of last weeks tests. She will be seeing a rheumatologist in Huntsville. Christy appreciates your prayers in her behalf.

Tippy Ingram is scheduled to have tests October 5 to determine if a hole in the heart is the cause of her complex migraine headaches.

Bobby Pepper, the father of Marty, underwent sinus surgery on Monday. The surgery went well, and he is recuperating at home.

Betty Dunnivan went to her doctor last week for a checkup following her mastectomy. She received a great report -- no chemotherapy or radiation will be required. We are thankful that she is able to be back at church.

Lisa Todd has received treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma on her nose, and she is doing well. It is nice to have her back at worship.

Islam is the second largest religion in the world—and swiftly closing the gap with Christianity. The largest Muslim nation in the world is not even in the Middle East.

Islam is making extensive encroachments into American life. Over 1,200 mosques dot the American landscape from California to New York—over half of which have been founded in the last three decades, with more being built every day. Politicians now freely include Muslims in their allusions to the social fabric of the nation. Headway is even being made to include the teaching of Islam in the public schools.

The seminar addresses such questions as:

Who was Muhammad?

What is the religion of Islam?

What are Islam’s central doctrines?

Who are the Sunnis and Shi’ites?

Why do Muslim terrorists hate Americans?

Does the Quran possess the attributes of inspiration?

Are Christianity and Islam compatible?

Does the Quran encourage violence?

What did America’s Founders say about Islam?

What should Christians do?

Come hear Dr. Dave Miller, Executive Director at Apologetics Press, discuss The Quran and New Testament Christianity at the West Fayetteville Church of Christ.

We have wonderful news to report: Alice Samuel put on Christ in baptism this afternoon after concluding a several-weeks long study of the Searching For Truth book and DVD course. Alice was one of seven ladies we've been meeting with every Tuesday for the past several weeks. These study sessions have been going so well that the ladies have asked to continue on with additional studies. We are hoping some of the others will follow Alice's example of obedience in the weeks ahead -- they're certainly all thinking about the things they've learned. Please pray that the "seed" sown into the hearts of these other ladies will sprout as we "water" through continued teaching and encouragement.

Alice's baptism was a beautiful, spontaneous occasion. After all the other ladies had headed for home, we stayed for a few extra minutes and talked with Alice. She had already said some things that indicated she was ready and anxious to be baptized. We asked her some more questions, and she came right out and said she was ready, and that she knew what she needed to do. We said we were ready whenever she was. Alice responded by saying she'd like to be immersed on Sunday after worship. We told her we'd respect her wishes, but it is something that should be done as soon as possible. We said farewell, and hoped she would contact us before Sunday.

On our bicycle ride home from the east side of the city to the west side (where our apartment is), we noted what a perfectly sunny and beautiful day it was in Galway. When we arrived home, we sent a text message to Alice which read, "So happy for your decision, Alice! Just so you know, the sun is shining and the Bay looks lovely today. If you are ready later today, just give us a ring (Acts 16:30-33). It's up to you. :)" Shortly thereafter, Alice responded, "What time suits?" We arranged to meet her halfway between our apartments, walked down to beautiful (but cold) Galway Bay, and buried the old Alice with Christ and washed away her sins! Alice was absolutely elated, and we remembered that she had mentioned she knew some of the words of the old hymn, All To Jesus I Surrender. We spontaneously broke out in the chorus of that hymn to help cement in Alice's mind the importance of what she had just done and the commitment she had made to Christ.

We must continue to express our gratitude for the prayers and financial support of the saints at West Fayetteville. Truly, when we plant and water, it is God who gives the growth. In a place like Ireland, it will be slow, so we must be patient -- but it will happen. Let's all continue to pray that we'll see more fruit borne from our current Tuesday Bible study group, and even more with people we've perhaps not even met yet as we go into the future!

Here's a link to a brief video of the baptism...
